The Massachusetts Senate today voted to unanimously pass an amendment filed by Senator Ken Donnelly (D-Arlington) to extend the time period of the deferred property tax rate to one year after the death of the property owner receiving the deferment.

This amendment is only applicable to active duty military personnel and the elderly who have received a deferment. It is intended to provide additional time for the family to probate the estate of the deceased and either sell the property or pay the taxes before the interest rate rises up to 16%.
