Senator Donnelly Participates in Prostate Cancer Awareness Day

State Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly (D-Arlington) was a featured speaker at this year’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Day event, which was held on Thursday, September 15, at the Massachusetts State House. The program, hosted by the AdMeTech Foundation, also featured former Boston Bruins player, Mike Milbury, Senate President Therese Murray, Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, and several other key legislators and advocacy groups.

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in August 2009, Senator Donnelly has worked to highlight protest cancer as a public health priority. If detected early, as in Senator Donnelly’s case, nearly 100% of all cases are cured after five years.
“Early diagnosis and treatment is critical to have a successful outcome,” Senator Donnelly said. “I was lucky to receive an early diagnosis, but that is not always the case, and this should never be a matter of luck.”

Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in the United States, affecting one in six men, and is the most common major cancer in Massachusetts and the second most lethal cancer in men.

The AdMeTech Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides international leadership and conducts programs in research and education for facilitated development of accurate diagnostic tools for early detection and minimally-invasive treatment of prostate cancer.
